Exterior grade MDF is available and is half way there as it has a grey core but must be painted on all surfaces.

You coul dalso use marine plywood

Blackboards were constructed using plywood - so wbp grade will do the trick. Will give a better surface to write on - mdf is too smooth anyway.

May be worth putting a small lean-to roof over the top (30cm) to protect it from therain.

make it A frame and stick it in the shed when not in use..

also has the advantage of having 2 sides that can be used at the same time to stop squabbles.... ( one side could be painting side.. )
