Hi all.

I have a brick built garage with a felted flat roof aprox 17ft x 9, there is also a parking space between the house and the garage with a brick wall at the back, so what I plan is to use this space to make a double garage, so if i remove the old felt and boards, take out the joists and replace with new joists what size joists would I need for the span to allow me to remove the internal wall, the total span would be 5.8m….thank you

275mm x 50mm joists at 400c/c with third span solid bracing. Maybe?

Could you put a central support beam or lintel where the wall is? Then you could prob get away with 147x 47.

Having said that, some chap is building a lean-to on back of his house. He appears to be using 100x47 with about 90cm spacings! I don't yet know what hes using as roofing.
