Split Load Consumer Unit

I'm looking to buy a split load consumer unit for my new flat. Can anyone tell me the best way to determine which current ratings is appropriate for my flat?

Most seem to be "100A Switch + 80A 30mA RCD" can you explain what this means?

Split load means that your sockets will be protected by a rcd and your lights will not be protected by an rcd.

The idea is that anything you plug in to a socket will automatically have rcd protection, and by not having the lamps rcd protected it will avoid "nusance" trips if a lamp fails

100A switch refers to the amount of current the main switch can handle safely
80 mA refers to how much the rcd can safley handle 30mA is at what current it will trip at

Having said all that you should get an electrician to fit it any way since he will have to dissconnect the suppliers main fuse
