VW Golf 1.6 CL Central Locking will not open Boot!!

Dear All

I have a R reg 1998 VW Golf 1.6 CL. I have recently noticed that if I unlock the car the Central locking sysytem will not unlock the boot. If I try to unlock the boot using the car keys it will not work either. If I lock the car using the central locking then all doors, windows etc are locked! Can anyone advise me what the problem maybe and how to fix? many thanks in advance.

Pop the panel off the inside of the boot and have a look at the air solenoid in there and the linkages.
A quick turn of the key while you're looking at it should make it apparent what it's not doing.
Highly likely it just needs some wd-40 on it to free it up a bit

Many thaks ^neo^ I have also tried to insert the key into the boot lock although it goes in it will not trun to unlock! Will wd 40 help to unstick it or does it need a new lock? many thanks.

not sure whether they changed the design on the mk4 (doubt it though) but the mk3 there is a rod that slide back and forward with the air solenid, and same with the key (sort of on a cam) so highly likely it's just siezed
