Hi,

First post so please be gentle :)

I'm looking to get some parquet fitted in my hallway which is approximately 6m2.

Subfloor is Floorboards so will need preparation before laying the parquet.

I guess the questions I need answering are:

1) Best way to prep the subfloor - will this be 6mm Ply?

2) Can anyone please give me an idea of how much I'm looking at for a professional to lay the floor for me per square metre?

Many thanks for any advice you guys can offer.

6mm ply is too thin to act as a proper subfloor for original parquet flooring. At least 12mm is needed.
As for costs, depends on so many different aspects: wood type, wood grade, thickness of blocks (10mm without T&G, 20mm with T&G?) pattern, border yes or no, number of corners, finish preferred etc. So, how long is a piece of string?

Okay so 12mm needed - thanks for that.

AFAIK the blocks are Oak, 10mm thick no T&G. They will need bitumen removing. I want a traditional herringbone pattern, no borders, then sanding and finishing in an appropriate stain to match up with our staircase (Dark stain)

Thanks

Costs, including adhesive, filler and finish: between £ 65.00 - £ 95.00 per sq m ex VAT is a estimated guess. Best to get two or three quotes from expert businesses - and make sure they know what they're talking about!
