I am putting up some curtain poles in my house and I have seen in other homes they have a batton screwed to the wall and then the curtain pole crewed into the batton. Is there any benefit of doing this?

Thanks

One reason for fixing a batten to the wall first is that it gives you a much wider choice of fixing centres, for example if the curtain pole brackets would lie over a lintel which is difficult to drill, whereas the fixing holes in the batten can be chosen to lie beyond it. Sometimes the batten can be used to cover damage. There may be other reasons which I'm not aware of.

also its spreads the weight of the curtains/pole over the whole length,so it wont pull out from the plaster and create a big big hole.
