Hi

New to the site so virtual drinks on me!

Had an open fire installed in the house and did a smoke test. The draft was excellant, but the smoke came up between our two chimney pots, where there is just a hole.

Do i need a pot and if i do what are the reasons for it? Roofer told me i do, but not cheap with the scaffold.

Thanks

No pots on Fred Dibna`s chimneys, Aye . Did you like that :?:

So what is the purpose of a pot? If the chimney has a good draught anyway?

Just curious not being ignorant :)

sounds as though one or more of the bridges may have collapsed.

So if i have a couple other opening on the chimney what stops the rain from getting in?

Nothing. The best solution is to put a ventilated terminal in a dis-used flue but hold onto your wallet. Three of them cost me nearly £120 last autumn.
Try a salvage place for 2nd hand pots and terminals if there are any near you.
