Hi, I'm in the process of building my dream house and have decided to have underfloor heating installed. However, I have been receiving conflicting information as to whether UFH is actually viable. The house is going to be timber joist construction. The systems I am looking at will install the pipes between the joists and then chipboard and then the solid wood flooring. My worry is that the chipboard will be 22mm and the solid wood flooring will be 28mm if i remember correctly so will the heat be able to get through? The companies I have spoken to say this will not be a problem but they would say that trying to get a sale.

Has anyone had similar systems installed and if so did it work out okay?

Any advice/recommendations appreciated.

A total of 50 mm of wood between the ufh pipe and your feet? No chance it will work, wood is a pretty good insulation.

We sometimes fit LK underfloor, they sell a solution for your problem.

Whilst wood is a good insulator, the trick is to ensure that the material underneath the heat layer is much better insulation than the wood above.

It is of course accepted that UFH works better with solid flooring, but if you prefer wood then there will be compromises.

have a look at spreader plates..these go onto the joists with the pipe in the grove.thus not raising the floor height. as they are metal all heat goes up and little is lost through the floor cavity. Fill the cavity with kingspan and vermiculite and you'll have no heat loss down towards the ceiling.

works brilliant for your needs.once wood gets hot it takes a long time to cool which makes woiodfenfloors so effective for ufh.
