GU10 earth wire

If single phase i.e no earth wire needs to be connectedto the GU10, i am aware that they shouldn't be connected and they shouldn't be trimmed back. Can you advise what should be done.

sleeved and taped up with insulation tape?

Thats OK, but tape tends to drop off over the years and is considered a bad thing for anything permanent. Rarther Better to sleeve andd terminate in a single slice of choc-block, ready for a future user to fit a metal lampshade that needs the earth

If the lamp is in a downlighter which is designed to be wired with a short link of flex, then you should terminate the earth as described within the junction box.

The presence or absence of an earth has nothing whatever to do with whether something is single-phase or not.
