I'm after a piece of timber to go over a fireplace. There is a concrete lintel, so I only need a piece of timber about 3-4 inches deep which can be plastered in to look like a beam.

I'm struggling to find something that looks the part (weathered/aged). The only thing I've seen so far are gateposts like these that I could take a 'slice' off:

Does anybody have any lying around? or know where I can get one? I'm in Hyde near Manchester.

Hoping to achieve something like this, only a bit more rough and ready:

Any input appreciated.

I'd go to a local reclaims yard, my local one has plenty of old reclaimed timber of all sizes. A piece of an old ceiling or floor joist would do the trick.

Sorry couldn't see you jpeg as link wasn't working.
