Hi,

I have had a quote for £240 to do the following,

2.88m2 kitchen rectangle floor with slant on one edge
2.9m2 bathroom
Supply and fit of plywood to fit over chipboard
Grout and adhesive supplied
Bath panel to be cut as well.

Is this a fair price?

Of course it's a fair price, it's better than fair, it's incredibly cheap. I can't even understand why such a low price would even warrant a thread to be started about this, or do you think it's too cheap? I certainly do.

I asked because I am unsure on tiling as I'm not an expert and you tend to hear hourly charges of circa £20

If you consider that the guys materials might be in the region of £80 + then this leaves £160 Labour. I doubt he would get the work done in a day, he has to screw the existing chipboard down, overboard it with ply, tile a Bathroom floor and then tile a Kitchen floor, then wait 2 - 3 hours for the adhesive to set and then grout it, plus cut the Bath panel down.

A very good deal I reckon.

Sounds like it may be a little to cheap to me; if you want it to last I would find out a little more about exactly what materials he’s going to use & how he’s going to over board. Not clear if you or he is supplying the adhesive/grout but I assume that price doesn’t include the tiles!

You may help yourself a little by reading the “Tiling forum” sticky & some of the archive posts to give you more idea what’s involved; not saying he is but there are lots of cowboys out there. ;)

as a self employed tiler i would give you an estimate of £380 and that would under cut most people so you have got a steal the sizes look small but when he is doing the work you will appreciate how much is actually involved in the job
