So what you're saying is that nothing here is pointless, which answers my question thanks.

So your point is that PBOD is too stupid to learn?? Ok, little arrogant and condescending but everyones entitled to a point of view.

Obviously never used WP either.

Did you read his post at all ? Your advice would be more relevant if you read the posts

Yes I did, whats your point?

Security essentials has a spyware scanner however its not infallable as you've pointed out, and something like SuperAntiSpyware/Malwarebytes (two of the best free solutions atm) are good on demand scanners to back it up.

Based on testing, the detection offered by MSE is great for a free product. It was far better than we expected in all honestly. Yet, that does not mean it is infallible.

New threats, and new methods to expose users to them, appear hourly. A little caution while surfing the Web, and good maintenance routines – like applying system patches and software updates regularly – will offer you far more protection than any AV engine or product.

A bit contradictory considering BPOD, being as stupid as you claim, probably wouldn't know how to do the bit underlined/in bold. Make up your mind.

Now Now,
All advice is appreciated lets not get like the Electric and plumbing forums

I had a problem this morning getting on internet.
Basically I could not  even though the connection seemed okay :?: bare in mind this is not my thing PC awareness.
So I removed the PC tools firewall and went to security centre in controls and turned the windows firewall back on in there.
Now can get internet access is this okay to do and stick with? :)

Daozen. A little pointless replying to your inane posts as you refuse to read, and more importantly understand, either mine or PBOD's posts.

PDOD. The reason you couldn't get access is that at some point after installing the FW it would have asked for Iexplore or another associated program to connect and you probably blocked it. Or you needed to configure access first. It doesn't matter which as it underlines what I was saying in previous posts. You need a simple to use solution, which is why WinPatrol was a ridiculous suggestion.

Windows firewall is not the best, at all. However is is simple to use. Stay clear of porn sites (damn!) and other questionable sites and you should be fine.

Good luck.

Stay away from porn! no way

So what firewall would you suggest worth using, that would cause a novice minimal problems, ie user friendly.
The internet worked fine last night, but I did not do the turn off and restart until later, then turned PC off until this morning. So the next time I used it was this morning, that is when the problem connecting started.
Pop ups of application kept appearing asking if I considered them safe, not a clue what is safe or not just never had a problem with them previously. Allow or Block!
Is it worth another bash with PC Tools or is there a better application to use?

@BoxCleva pointless because you dont know what you're talking about

@BPOD

Heres a link to some of the best free firewalls, you can make your own choice. http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-firewall.htm

The popups you'll get with all of them, the best thing you can do is stay calm and ask yourself "what have I just done?" If its started a program, updating windows etc then generally its ok to allow it. However if you block it and something you were doing doesn't work you'll know what it was and can go into the firewall and unblock it.

Some people say you dont need a software firewall if you're behind a router, if you are windows firewall will do, but isn't the best.
