I have a chimney cooker hood in my kitchen. It has been wired but the top is open and there is no outlet that goes outside. Should a chimney hood be on an external wall or have a tube that goes outside?

Depends on make & model - some are designed to work alternatively as (a) venting to the outside, or (b) recirculating within the room. The filter typically needs to be changed between the two modes of operation. Some will work in one mode only.

Check with instruction booklet, or manufacturer's website/helpline if instructions not available. Advice should be there as to whether or not you need a different filter for recirculation within the room.
