suddenly no cold water in kitchen mixer tap?

Can anyone help with this?

Used the cold tap in my kitchen mixer tap at around 8pm, everything normal. Go to use it again at around 10pm, no water. Still nothing now, although hot tap is working normally as are hot and cold taps in bathroom.

Any ideas?

The kitchen sink tap will be from incoming water main but bathroom probably supplied from tank in loft. Check with neighbours to see if mains is off. Have you paid your water rates?

thanks shaggy, all rates definitely paid, and the hot water in the kitchen is working as normal, so there is water there, just not cold water. Also, I have no tank, all water is piped in directly, although from two different main pipes I think.

ferdinanddebargos, I'll try and look inside the pipes closest to the tap and see if there is anything obvious before I resort to calling out a professional, thanks

Is the hot from a combi then?

erm... I have a gas boiler that provides my heating (with radiators) and hot water, if that's what you mean

(can you tell I'm not an expert with this stuff!?)

Ok, just checking you were sure about system; you may have just moved in. It sounds like you do have a combination boiler then, so water is heated as required. Does sound like tap problem then. (I'm not an expert in anything either)

It's a bit unusual to have water coming into your house through two different pipes - unless you are in a block of flats with a shared cold storage tank. Meanwhile ---

Can you find anything at all along the pipe run from your kitchen tap to the point where it comes in? You're looking for a stopcock, which might have been turned off by mistake, or a drain cock. What use is the draincock? You can check for water pressure by opening it very slightly. If there isn't any then somebody has turned off your supply.

Perhaps you could arrange you ablutions around 8pm when it's working and not bother with it after 10pm

felix: I am in a block of three flats (a conversion). There is a stopcock on the kitchen pipes, I'll try turning it off and seeing what happens. I don't understand though why I would still have hot water and not cold if the supply has been turned off?
