Thanks for the idea but I'm looking for a proper glass as the customer is expecting to see one like the above and space is limited

Try Dean & Wood. They might not stock it but will certainly be able to obtain what you need plus it will be specced for refrigeration applications.

Piece of aluminium plate with a groove filed along it's length, and a piece of perspex stuck on top? Seal ends of groove with a dab of LSX?

Assuming the gauge is connected to the tank by hollow screws, filing a flat on a plain (stainless) screw would probably suffice. Fibre washers on the screws, and you have a gauge.
