cupboard light and switch

Hello,
I have a small dark understairs cupboard space that houses the electric meter, consumer unit etc.I want to add a light and switch and im assuming i can just tap into the terminal on the consumer for the lighting to power this new light and switch.
Is this ok, and how would i go about wiring this up??
