straight edge boards

Not really, the hump will almost certainly be visible.

Why do you want to tape & fill square edge boards? Plaster finish looks much better & is far more durable anyway.

ordered wrong ones i,ll go and swapm em

Is this a ceiling or a wall, I used to use square, still occasionally do on ceilings and joint fill.
You do need to fill out a larger area from the joint though to feather it out, to give the illusion it's flat.
But best result with tapered edged unless your plastering it.
I wouldn't do it on the walls though, I'd try to skim them.

Keep the square edge & get them skimed as PBD says; it'l look far better & will last much longer..
