I want to paint over some lyncrusta type paper that has been varnished..Whats the difference between primer and undercoat.I want to emulsion the paper. Will it matter what i use.
As it has varnish on it I would recommend you use a coat of zinsser first, this will seal the varnish and give you a good base for the emulsion.
As to what zinsser to use is up to you, but I now only use cover stain, its an oil base primer/stain block but will take emulsion with out any problems.
