Replacing a external light switch

Hi everyone,

I need to replace a light switch in my garage now the switch has

L1 on the bottom

X1 and X1 on the top

There is a small diagram on the back and the L1 and first X1 are joined together and X1 just has a deadend type of icon.

Have not come across X1 before any ideas which needs to go where?

sounds like a 2 way switch... with some funny markings..

live into L1 and switched live into either of the X1's.
if the switch operates upside down then swap to the other X1.

Why not just put your multimeter on the continuity/low ohms setting and find which terminals are connected together at each switch position?
