Hi there…looking for advise,
I live in a flat maintained by factor. Last month some youngsters broke the entry door system of our building because some tenants living in the block had not called them for a party. The system was totally non functional. This system was later repaired by the factor and the tenants were charged for the same. Now the scene is that I am able to release the door but unable to listen to any ring. When I or my husband press the ring from outside nothing rings inside. Although we are able to speak to each other and release the door. I reported the fault to the factor and they say that as the door entry system is working fine in all the other 8 flats and it is only my flat where it is not ringing then probably there is some fault in my handset. My system was working absolutely fine before this incident. I tried to convince them but to no avail. This is there response:

"I have just checked with the technical officer and she thinks that the door entry system is working okay. I will pass an order to get someone to call out to check your handset - if this is at fault, then you will be responsible and be recharged. The contractor should hopefully be in contact with you this week."

I don’t understand what to do in these circumstances. I am also worried that I might have to spend money unnecessarily. I understand people using this forum are specialist. Please advise.

Regards,

When the contractor arrives and finds the fault is at the outside connection which you seem sure that it is, then you won't have to pay anything. You don't give any details of the system that's installed, but I've installed a couple of simple units for 2, or 4 flats and I can't think of anything that could happen to the outside part that would damage the indoor equipment.

If your tenancy agreement says that you are responsible for the equipment inside your home then if it is the inside 'ringer' that has coincidentally failed at the same time, then, you will have to pay. I would expect the landlord to repair equipment that has failed through normal use though, so check your agreement to see.

It's probably quite straightforward that one wire - the call wire for your flat - has not been connected or identified properly.
