Where to get 1" steel pipe? (making pullup bar)

Hi everyone.

I'm in college dorms at the moment and I want a pullup bar, but those 'door gym' ones you can buy for £20 like this:

don't fit in the 1m wide doorways we have. So I wanted to make one like this:

But I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells iron or steel pipe, only copper or plastic. I was contemplating getting some keyclamps/tubeclamps like these: http://www.tubeclamps.co.uk/ in a smaller size, but I imagine that would be quite expensive.

If anyone knows where I can get materials to make myself a pullup bar like the one shown above then I would be in your debt.

That looks like it is 3/4" or 1" bsp pipe fittings.... do you have the threading equiptment to make it?
If not id use keyclams. Only need an allenkey and a saw for that.
 
No threading eqipment. I was hoping to buy it in pre-cut pre-threaded lengths but I'm beginning to think that's just something they do in American hardware stores and not so much in the UK.

The keyclamps look like a nicer way to do it anyway.
 
Steel handrail available from diy sheds, larger more suitable diameter.?

BSS will be able to supply the 25mm BS1387 pipe and the mallable iron fittings. Dont know if they will cut and thread it. I think 32mm will be a better size.
 
you do realise you are expecting half a dozen small pins and a bit off paint to take all your weight!! :D :D
 
Nah it works by leverage so most of the weight is going at 90 degrees into the wall, not straight down into the top of the door frame. I've actually got one that I use at home.

Why not just get one like that and extend the legs a bit to sit in front of the frame? An engineer in his lunch break would have some extensions welded on in a jiffy and pretty cheap too. Two tubes the same or slightly larger than the existing and the jobs a good'un!
