Fitting joist into steel beam

I have to fit a 75mm joist into a steel channel x2. Do i need to get this shaped up in order for it to be a good fit ?

Also how do i fit it in place. I will be bolting 2 channels to a truss. So do i do it all at the same time (difficult i reckon) or do i set the channels onto the truss with the large M12 bolts poking through. I then measure where the holes need to be on the joist and drill them and then slide them onto the bolts.

The query i have with this is can i drill a wider hole into the joists to make locating them easier. the bolts are 12mm and i would like to drill 20mm. I will be using 75mm timber plate connector to stiffen everything up.

can anyone see a problem with this solution or do they have a better solution?

i am bolting 2 steel channels to a truss to make a huge flitch beam. i will push a joist into each channel. from this i will hang my new floor. This is positioned in the centre of the room and i will use the gable and party walls to take the other end of the load.

Can anyone confirm if it is ok to drill 20mm holes into the joists which will be bolted to the C channels. The bolts being used are M12 and normal hole size is 14mm. However i need some tolerance when pushing the joists onto the bolts.

I will also be using toothed plate connectors (3") to hold it all together.

marsaday, i dont know if anyone can answer you..

Firstly IF this is a true flitch beam then the bolt holes need to be as close to the actual bolt diameter as possible so 14mm..
Your bolt locations will also need to be staggered..

What you describe thou isnt a traditional flitch beam in any way.. is this what your engineer has designed??
