Is there an existing point already there for you to connect to, or do you need to wire a new circuit from scratch for it?

You are allowed to do it yourself, but you have to go through a whole load of hoops for work in a kitchen (which is a special location).
Better to get a registered spark, unless you are really competent with electrical installations and have the necessary test equipment.
