Just had one fitted into a bathroom cupboard. Limited by width therefore had to choose max width 400mm. The heating is loud and once the gas has fired up there is a continuous humming heard throughout the house even with the cupboard and bathroom doors closed.

Is this normal or is there a problem with the installation?

No, it's on the back wall of the house (bricks and mortar).

Does it need anti-vibration pump brackets or might it be the speed of the pump has been set too high?

these boilers are noisy contact worc and they will send an engineer who will prob adjust the pump speed, this sometimes cures the prob, check the fan only two places that generate noise[pump/fan]

If the pump speed is adjusted, presumably slowed down, will the boiler not work as well?

The pump speed is set by the makers. In a combi, the pump is always at speed three. Reduce the pump speed at your peril. Only a person who has no knowledge of boiler operation will mess with boiler settings.

but surely Worcester would know that. Failing that what would you suggest?

its quite simple, the junior uses a 4 pipe heat exchanger the pump switches off on a hot water demand, its quite ok to turn the pump down as it only runs the ch which will have a small load, and as its a junior i would not expect you to have a huge system, another fix would be to change the head of the pump for a 15/50 and yes worcester will know what they are doing!!
