hi, my above boiler has just developed a mind of it's own the boiler keeps firing up & shutting down repeatedly on the central heating side even though the room thermostat isn't calling for the heating to come on.

to stop it happening i have to switch the central heating side of it off, the hot water works fine.

does anyone have any idea what it could possibly be?.

Many thanks.

How are you shutting the heating side of it off?

First thoughts are that the room stat must be faulty as any other fault i.e frost mode kicking in, HW kicking in would still be present even if you switched the CH off. presumably by the timer.

Get someone to test or disconnect the room stat to eliminate this first.

Thanks for your response Rob, i'm turning the heating off by turning the central heating temperature knob to off. i thought it may be the remote central heating temp controller.

It sounds like a switiching problem on the divertor valve ,I am not sure how competent you are with elctrics or fault finding .

It maybe good idea to call in local timeserved independent heating engineer
