Hi,

I'm having problems turning my electric shower off. It's a Heatrae Sadia Cameo model and I've included a picture of it below, although it doesn't have the switch on the left hand side of the picture, just the dial.

The dial is really stiff and although it turns a bit, it's quite hard to get it to switch off completely, so I end up with a constant dripping.

Is there anyway to adjust the tension on this dial without getting an electrition to open the whole thing up?

Many thanks.[/img]

You could try isolating the power from your CU take the fron cover off and if you have a meter of some kind just test to make sure it is dead.

You may find that a good squirt of WD 40 or Contact cleaner might just free it up a little. Make sure a cable or anything is stopping it's movement.

Allow the lubricant to dry completely before puting the cover and power back on. If that don't work then you might have to start stipping things down if you feel able to

WD40 is not a lubricant and might be good to help free the dial but you want to be using something like GT85 to lubricate it.

Agree but I would use Contact cleaner or GT85 but most people have a can of WD and if it works and frees the knob up then you can think of getting perhaps a better lubricant. No point buying something that will not work. At least WD will prove if it can free it

WD40 does leave a lubricating residue behind, doesn't it?

Whether it's OK to use on the plastic the shaft is made from is another matter...

Anyway - lubrication might not be the answer, and WD40 might not free up whatever is stuck. It's a tap, and Hampshire is a hard water area.

Malco - yeah fair enough I was just being a bit pedantic

BAS - I don't know but I don't think so, it drives water and oil out and dries up afaik, IMO GT85 is the way forward for everything from locks and hinges to curtain tracks and zips.

I have known Sadia knobs go stiff, and I think (especially as he says it is dripping) that it is the water valve that is scaled up with lime, or worn out, so it is a plumbing problem not an electrical one. It frequently happens in a building I use in a very hard water area and they usually throw them away and fit new ones.

Probably the valve needs a strip/descale/new "O" rings and reassemble with PTFE tape and silicone grease (isolate from electric and water supplies first) I have never taken one apart to try and mend it though.
