Random beeps in the night!?

Hi Folks,

I have an SL compact alarm in a flat I've just moved into. The electricity was off and when I turned it on the alarm sounded. The code I was left with doesn't do anything but I've silenced it by tripping the fuse and left it at that. The thing is it has started beeping really loudly from the internal box in the middle of the night, at first it was six beeps, then it went to three! Seems very random to me, has anyone any ideas of the cause and if it's easy to fix?

It's probably nothing to do with the alarm it's more likely a smoke detector battery going flat.
