When you say repair will it involve soldering? If so then yes.If not minor repairs can be done by depressurising and closing auto air vent caps.Simple repairs like remaking compression joints can be done.Have some old towels ready!

What I have done is bent the feed pipe at the valve connection when trying to disconnect the rad. So I will have to put in a new piece of pipe. I could do this with a soldered fitting (preferred) or a compression.

If soldering then you must remove the water from the pipe you are heating.Soldered fittings are a lot neater but in this case as long as it looks ok I would go compression.
