shower water supply

hi guys,
i am fitting a shower bath with a thermostatic bar valve shower and would like to know if the water supply to the shower valve can come from the hot and cold taps underneath the bath?

just to be clear m8; i can just cut into the pipes supplying the bath taps for hot and cold using flexi pipe running to the shower valve? then where do i put the check valves and what are they?
