Hi,

I seem to be having 2 problems and I am not sure if they may be linked.

In the summer the boiler started to cut out with a fault code of F4 (ignition fault), with water on only, to correct this I would just turn it off and on again and it would then be fine for a few days.

I took the cover off the boiler and started it up and oddly the boiler was actually lighting, it was just the green light on the front which would flicker on and off, and then the fault code would appear, therefore I think this may be an electrical or sensor fault telling the system it is not lit when it actually is.

As soon as I put the heating on as well as the water it was absolutely fine and has been for about 3 months, until yesterday when it happened again.

About a month ago I also noticed water from a pipe outside my back door, I have traced this to the water tank and specifically one of the pressure release valves (tundish) indicating that the pressure may be too high in the cyllinder, this consistantly drains off when the boiler is on

I am not a qualified plumber or unvented specialist so will have to get a plumber in to have a look at this but was wondering if anyone had come accross similar issues and if the fix was expensive or not.

Thanks

hi grundug
if your pressure relief valve has been letting by for some time now you will probably need to change it (but hopefully not)because the seatings wear down or scale up once discharging for long periods
( it might be a tempurature & pressure release valve?

your 2 port motorized valve might have failed causing the cylinder to overheat and pressurise-how does your water temp feel to touch

or most likely thy expansion gap has been reduced-it needs recharging-(extra air put into it )but take a look at manufacturers instructions on how to do it
usually you drain down cylinder to pressure relief hight and refill
i dont know what cylinder you have-age etc but before now on an old one i have added an extra expansion vessel to compensate
pressurised cylinders should be serviced annualy like boilers
i hope this helps

I am wondering if you have had your boiler serviced. You need someone competent who can address the issues which might make the ignition lockout occur.

You also need someone who is qualified to work on unvented cylinders who can examine the particular expansion arrangements.

Your unvented cylinder will have a seperate expansion vessel which the engineer will have to check to see if its failed or the air precharge needs resetting.

didnt you post this before? sure i replied to this topic already but its dissapeared. As i said in that one, get someone in asap to look at boiler. Sounds like it may have been neglected. Working ok with the case off is a bad sign.

Thanks for the advice and feedback

The system is only 3 years old and was installed when the house was built, although it has never been serviced so I will get a specialist in to have a look.

The tank actually still has the plumbers name and number who fitted it so I may give him a call to take a look

Thanks again
