Using a 28mm x 300mm diamond core drill

Hi all,

I need to drill a neat couple of holes through the side of a chimney breast to run some HDMI cables for a wall mounted TV. I am thinking of using a 28x300mm diamond core bit as the depth i need to drill is around 280mm.

As these drills do not use guide bits I was wondering how to start the drilling without making a horrible mess of the newly plastered and decorated wall surface ?

I might yet source a 32mm x 150mm bit with a guide bit and arbor extension but would welcome any advice from someone experienced in doing this.

Use a piece of ply about 18mm+ thick with a 28mm hole drilled in it and place this against the wall either fixed with a couple of screws or spraged off something and use it as a guide to run your core bit in . You'll only need it until the bit is into the brick a way.
