Replacing BT Master Socket

Dear Folks,
Here is a woman asking a question, so please be patient.
I have a big trouble - I was trying to replace the BT master socket in my living room, purchased replacement but when I brought it home - the replacement looked different.
I have 4 little wires sticking out the wall (blue/white, orange etc.) and the existing BT socket cover has only 4 ''little plugs'' that keep the colourful wires intact.
The replacement one, however, has 6 - three in each row.
Can I still use it and if so, any idea how to connect the little wires and which 2 little plugs should I leave not connected, please?
I am sorry, I know I did not give you the best explanation of my problem but I am no specialist electrical appliances or equipment wise.
Yet I do want to replace my cover, I just don't know how

You may not be aware but the master socket & the wiring behind it belongs to BT. You’re not supposed to touch it & could get into trouble for doing so or at least face a hefty bill for an BT engineer to sort it out. Are there no instructions/diagram with the new socket? The cables should be colour coded & the pins in the socket should be numbered; click on this & it may help;

Hello Rich,
Thanks for that, I will have a proper look at diagrams when at home so that I can see the old and the new socket cover.
The only 4 wires are blue/white, blue, orange and orange/white.
The old socket cover has only 4 pins I can connect these tiny cables to.
The new socket cover has 6 pins altogether, 3 pins on each side.
That is the bit I find most confusing - how do I know which wire I should connect to a particualr pin? And what about two pins that will be left ''spare'' or not connected?

When any woman makes that comment I always ask why when a large majority of people seem to want to run women down why give them the ammunition and run themselves down??

Blue /small white pin 2
White/small blue pin 5
Orange/white pin 3

nothing else matters, and if you have broadband over the same line using microfilters, leave orange pin 3 not connected also
