Switch problems

I am living in France. I bought a switch with three markings- which are N, N, L (the 2 'N' s have diagrams of light bulbs). After I connected the switch the lights came on. Great I thought then when I used the switch the fuse tripped. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

my guess is its a 2 way switch with strange markings

blowing a fuse sounds like you have wired the switch so it shorts accross the supply

can you give us a diagram of exactly what you wired to what?
