Does a person need a gas safe ticket to carry out a drop test?

If you mean a tightness test then yes you need to be registered .
 
If your in your own home
Know how to do it,the expected result and what they mean(effectively competent in the loosest of terms)

Then you don't need to be registered.

And know how to confirm that you have not left or caused any gas leaks afterwards.
If u have any doubts as to the integrity of your gas system phone transco/national grid and they will attend at no cost to make sure its safe for you your family & your neighbours.
