Back boiler conversion to wood burner?

Hello all,

I'm contemplating changing from using the Baxi backboiler that currently heats my radiators and provides hot water. The question is... can a woodburner be installed without replacing all of the radiators, pipework etc? Can a woodburner simply take the place of the backboiler without to much trouble?

A wood burning boiler/stove will be considerably larger to achieve gas BBU output. Closest like for like would be a solid fuel one. In any case you'll need gravity HW circuit and rigid F&E tank.

Hi Tibbot,

Thank's for the reply. I don't want to appear rude but...I have not the foggiest when it comes to jargon like this. I'm very grateful for the reply however, bbu's and hw's are a different language altogether for me.

Will I be able to replace the Baxi backboiler I have with a wood burner and leave everything in place, pipes and rad's wise?

Only the rads and their pipework can stay in place for sure. Everything else may or will need to be altered in some way, especially flue liner.
