would you please inform me of the correct procedure for draining a domestic hot water system comprising :boiler, radiators,header tanks and hot watertank.

Turn your boiler off, turn your cold water supply tap off (or preferably just hot water tank feed if it has a cock, saves you emptying your cold water storage tank and having no cold water at same time), open upstairs and downstairs hot tap until water stops running.
 
& if you need to remove the cylinder, connect hose to drain off at bottom of cylinder (if you're lucky) or remove top connection & put a hose in to syphon off to empty the cylinder. Otherwise you will still have a full cylinder of water!
