Hi,

I have a light fitting in my kitchen that holds 6 of those little spotlight type bulbs, they are 240V 50W. This morning I switched the lights on and there was a flash and a pop and darkness, the main 5amp fuse had been blown. The lights have been installed two years with no problems. Could a defective bulb have caused this? What else could cause it?

Thanks in advance.

Jay.

Often a failing lamp will take out a 5A fuse or breaker

Chances are that when you replace the fuse and switch it back on you'll see you now have a failed lamp

Yes failed lamp is often the cause, though with these type of lights if the kitchen gets steamy and the lamps are not properly sealed moisture can get to any exposed copper and cause a short.

Thanks for the info guys.

And no I'm not Gordon Ramsey, lol. And actually it's 600W as there are two of these fittings on seperate switches.

i wonder when ebenezer shed will be back?

merry christmas :p

GU10 lamps are very 'spiky' when they blow and can easily take out fuses/dimmers etc ...... you were lucky you got 2 years out of them :D

600W in a kitchen!! ... I'd love to see your leccy bill!
