Hi all, returned to a very cold house yesterday evening after 4 days away to find that the pilot wouldn't ignite on the heating. Called out an engineer who has just left who demonstrated to me that the fan has gone. He did a quick fix with some silicone which may last a couple of days, he has quoted €390 (Ireland) to supply and fix the replacement fan. Does this sound reasonable?
Many thanks.

If those are Euro the 390 will be about £350 and that sounds a lot!

What what ejit will come and diagnose a fault and make a temporary repair with out making any charge for his diagnosis and visit?

are you are happy to pay 390 euros to get it going or would you rather stay cold for some time, until you find someone who is willing to do it cheaper, and how much cheaper do they need to go to keep you happy in your moment of need.

For the record I had the fan replaced today for 250 euro. The guy who diagnosed yesterday charged 90 euro callout and service.
Thanks Pedant for that helpful contribution.
