I have a home monitoring system from AlertMe (I've only seen in mentioned on here once before) and after reading the Yale thread I would like to see how the professionals on here rate it.

Here's the link to the system...

If you have any questions about what it can or can't do I'll happily answer.

Thanks in advance.

seen this on the gadget show once, tbh its no more than a toy, the yale systems are far more serious from a security pov.

Bit of a gimmic TBH.
My panel does all this but costs £100`s.
But it does it properly.

Cheap plug in box.

Says it all really.
Many will say i`m biast, perhaps so.

But I dont buy cheap engine oil or ****ty tyres.

One it lives on 2.4 G as everything does.
Newer pro kit is 868..

Ip can drop off, got a dynamic IP?

GPRS can sometimes take hours to get through.

See the point.
Actually IP is going to be the way forward.
Just needs a few issues sorting.
And we have had home automation for several years.
I worked on one of the first to be seen on television.
House of the future was the show.
Does not mean I still totally trust it.

Was that the Granada TV project ?

I got a lot of valuable info from that, it was only a month or so ago that I binned the folder of letters and data I had.

No, I have it on a static IP and the one time the internet did fail, it switched straight to GPRS.

Also, what's your point about the home automation?

I don't think the AlertMe system is the best out there, but from what you have said, I can't see any fundamental problems with it either.

Because they mention home automation on the site.
You think I just guessed at my reply.
I looked at the link provided.

The guy is just pushing his own kit. Why can't you all see that?

Who? Me?

I'm not pushing it, I want to know how it varies from professional kits, and not just because it's a cheap plug in box.

I genuinely want to know the bad points and it's vulnerabilities, so I can weigh up whether it's worth upgrading.

It runs on 2.4 G, and? Can that be blocked or intercepted? That's what I'd like to know.
