I see posts referring to the terms:

* fuse-box

* fuse board

* CU

What, if any, are the differences? In fact, if a suitably-qualified someone could explain the terms precisely, i'd be very grateful!

Fusebox or fuse board were the old term (because they contained fuses) for what is now more commonly known as consumer unit. These more modern ones contain MCBs so are not 'fuse boards/boxes' but are sometimes incorrectly referred to as them.

The distinguishing characterisic of a consumer unit is that it contains both overcurrent protection (fuses or MCBs) and the main switch.

In the old days you would have a separate main switch and fusebox.

The above are same and are old terms now.

A consumer unit is a type of distribution board that incorperates manual double pole isoaltion and possibly fuses, circuit breakers, residual current devices and control devices suitable for the assembly.
