Stone Tiles for Fireplace Hearth

I am in the process of renovating my house. We are planning to install a wood burning stove in the living room and would like to lay our own hearth.

We have a constructional hearth already and need some advice on the types of stone tiles and the fixing we should use to lay the decorative hearth. We don't want to use the wrong things and have the heat from the stove do any damage.

Any help is greatfully received.

I put a wood burning stove in 5 years ago and used indian stone bedded on sand/cement mortar. had no problems at all.

we put a log burner in my sons house last year. We tiled in the opening with red quarry tiles fixed with cement based adhesive ( not the ready mixed stuff )..It throws out a terrific heat and up to now no tiles have moved.It still needs the surround sorting but its the best thing since sliced bread ..Bill

Hi Sorry to bump an old thread but ive just knocked out my fireplace and am planning installing a log burner. Ive got a constructional hearth along side a suspended wooden floor. I planed on just tiling up to the point where my old superimposed hearth was so it would be more or less on the same level as the floor. Is this allowed? or do i need to raise it up significantly? I cant really decipher if i need to do this since i already have a constructional hearth from my fireplace or if this is just for installations straight on to wooden floors.
