Good evening all, the flue from my old boiler originally went from a downstairs cupboard up through the eaves and then through the roof. The install team for my new boiler partially removed it. However I have some leftover problems...

I now have a hole in my eaves floor which I want to cover up permanently. See picture 1. What's the best way of sealing it up?

Secondly, there is also a leftover bit of flue (I was expecting this to be taken out but it wasn't) which now starts from the eaves (it petrudes out by about 1m and hangs there) and goes up into the roof. Again I want to get rid of it and do a permanent seal up. Would it be possible for me to do it by myself?

If you are capable of the work required then why not?

You should have made it clear to the new boiler installers what was to be removed and what was to be left.

If that was included then get them back.

Hi,

I was really looking for info as to how I go about patching it up.

For example in picture 1. Is it just a case of putting down 1 piece of chipboard to cover the bottom hole then a piece of insulation and then a 2nd bit of chipboard?

in pic1 it depend what that area is? If its a cupboard or something, i'd just cut a bit of 1/2" ply the size of the cupboard to level the floor. The downstairs bit again it depends on what you want it to look like? You maybe able to fill and plaster it, You might be better asking in the plastering section!
Pic 2 I would get a roofer in to pull out the flue and fit some new tiles in the space, Its only a couple of hours work. Prob less than £100.

Thanks for the advice mickyg, picture 1 is a cupboard in eaves. The bottom bit is the ceiling to an old outside cupboard where the boiler used.

Yeah I'm just going to get a roofer to deal with pic 2.

Thanks again.
