I want to be able to control my heating and HW separately - to be able to set them to come on and go off independently.

I currently have a Potterton EP 2002 controller fitted, and I understand the first Potterton model that will allow this is the 6002. I'd like to know if I'll be able to simply replace one with the other. I'm happy to rewire existing cables. Without taking the unit off the wall I can see there are currently two large cables running in to the back.

If it is possible, are there any other brands/models of controllers that will allow me to do this with only simple rewiring required?

Many thanks in advance for advice. Best wishes.

Will depend on your heating system, to control HW/CH independantly needs motorised valves. Basic control can be achieved with a gravity HW/pumped CH system on a 'C' plan, or 'S' and 'Y' plan if system is fully pumped. Need some more info on current setup really.

Thanks...OK - so what do we need to know (bearing in mind I know nothing)? Would a motorised valve be that rectangular silver box that seems to make a small "clockwork" type noise when the heating goes on and off? Any advice on what I need to look for to provide further information gratefully received. Ta.

As already said, it's as much about plumbing as it is electrics.

If you know nothing it'll be very difficult to describe what to do and how to do it. Maybe you could take some photos of your system and boiler and post back.

Or get a pro in.

Rectangular silver box is likely a motorised valve. Do you have one with 3 pipes attached or a pair with a pipe in and out? Photo would be useful!
