Corner Protectors for internal walls

Hi,

Since having kids I notice that a couple of the exposed 90 deg corners in the hall get a right battering. I have bought some lengths of wooden "L" section batons and waxed them. They look great and I want to mount them now but I am not sure of the best approach.

I thought a mixture of adhesive and lost head nails or small tacks but the batons are quite thin and I don't want to split them. Also I am worried about how the nails will go into the corner strengthening strip under the plaster.

However I don't see adhesive alone working since to get the batons flat and even over the whole length would be tough. Any ideas?

I would suggest adhesive only, because as you say, trying to pin through the metal corner bead can be tricky and can even damage the plaster. You are also left with the filling to do which nearly always stands out. You could temporarily pin if necessary to hold in place until the adhesive is dry.

Try using a thin bead of Gripfill or similar and press into place. Remove immediately and wait 20 seconds or so before pressing back into position. This will give a much better initial bond and should reduce the need for temporary pins. Wipe away any excess straight away and the job should be done.

The only problem I foresee, is that if you have waxed the inside of the wood, the adhesive may not stick to it.

The poor kids always get the blame!!

Thanks for the reply. I have not waxed the inside of the wood so what you suggest should work ok. A job for when the kids are in bed so I am free to swear if the baton pops off again.
