Dont know if this is any use. But several years ago I had same prob with hoover 1100. From new it kept tripping intermittently so the 3 times they came it wouldnt do it 
I sat up one night watching it for full 128min cycle's and noticed on the spin there seemed to be flashing (reflecting on tiled floor). so i put a heavy dust sheet in and put it on spin and kept on doing it till I could definatley see sparks (with use of mirror on floor).
It tripped then. When engineer came (6 days later) he found wiring harness was fouling drum and thought he was just going to repair it with insulation tape I got a new harness in the end but thats another storey.
