when fitting my new kitchen and altering pipework, I have discovered old under floor pipework is imperial 3/4 and 1/2 inch.
I cant get solder ring fittings but believe that if I use 22mm compression with a 3/4 olive this will be ok. I have been told that 15mm compression fittings will go straight on to 1/2 inch , would I not need a 1/2 inch olive
or is there a better way

cheers.........

you can use a 3/4 Olive in a 22mm fitting, use some ptfe on the olive tho.

You can also use a STD 22 olive on a 3/4 pipe, again, use loads of ptfe on the olive.

Nip it up to fix the olive, undo it wrap some ptfe round the olive then do it up nice and tight!

Has worked for me when I was stuck.

you can get 3/4" to 22mm soldered fitting from the plumbers merchants, or a 3/4" to 22mm olive for a compression fitting, 15mm and 1/2" are the same size, i dont agree with fitting a 22mm olive on 3/4" pipe with loads of ptfe tape, that isnt the right way to do a fitting,

It was the only option when I was changing the stop cock....!

Still going strong, seems silly to change it.

But I'd agree, if I had the option I would of used a 3/4 olive, or replaced the pipe.

I hope that Kirk alsl teaches the last advice from Ben!

The reason being that comp fittings can start to leak and should therefore not be fitted where they cannot be seen.

I personnally would go for soldering, and if you are considering laying a tiled floor afterwards, then it would be a good idea to pressure test the pipework to confirm soundness. You don't want to be pulling up the flooring once laid. Better safe than sorry. :)
