Light bulbs blowing
Reply with quote Thanks

Hi i am currently employed as an electrician for a housing association and often come across people saying that they have faulty electrics and their light bulbs ( lamps ) blow often. This usually stumps me what to tell them as half the time they are using really cheap lamps and don't like to be told this!!! I know that there are quite a few reasons for this like vibrations etc, but could you please try to give me an explanation as to why this happens?
This would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

mian reasons: cheap bulbs. they are weaker and more likely to blow

higher voltage: often, the voltage is over 240V. some bulbs are made for 230V so they blow more often

Also, seriously, you wont beleive me but:- when the light fittings get worn they can cause the bulb to fail often icon_sad.gif - summit to do with poor contacts and increased heat etc etc on the contacts - changing fittings on lamps can stop the problem.

I think it can be caused by a few things if the contact is poor.

I had a case when the electricity supply voltage went high when everyones economy 7 systems cut in / out. I originally contacted the electricity supply company regarding the constant changing of lamps. The electricity supply company came and plugged an event recorder in for just over a week. Once they found the problem they came and altered the voltage at their transformer next door. They left the event recorder for another week just to make sure and now all seems ok.
