Setting up new tv

Hello all, help or advice please.
I am purchasing a new flat screen to replace my old CRT.
This may sound like a daft question to those in the know, how do I set it up please? I am a complete non technical person and know that the instruction manual will fill me with dread, so any help much appreciated. I did not get much input from the store.

For reference I have Sky+ box, with HDMI connection. Do I just plug the new TV via HDMI and hey presto, or do I need to tune in? Can I also use the volume control on the Sky remote?

Hello Willa , for your new tv it should just be a matter of plugging in the hdmi cable from the sky box, and then putting your tv onto the relevent hdmi channel.

with regards to your sky remote, make a note of the model number of the tv , then go to customer services tab via interactive menu on ur sky remote, there will should see a HOW TO SETR UP REMOTE.

if you have anything else on the aerial cable before the tv without scart leads to the tv a video recorder for example make sure they are turned on other wise they wont be found this is assuming you tv has an analogue tuner as well as digital

Get one of your grandchildren round. Pass them the remote. Step out of the room for about 5 minutes. Come back into room. Bingo

Not quite old enough for grand kids who could sort this out, but thanks for the replies. I will borrow some from next door.

it should be as simple as connect the aerial' batteries in the remote control 'connect any boxes with scart or coax leads '
then plug in the mains and follow instructions on the screen

but what ever you do plug in the mains last to avoid auto tune starting before properly connected
