we are in the process of filling in a planning application form to put in a new window (not a replacement, its a new opening altogether)

Just getting confused with the form (that we have to fill in and send 4 copies of ! )

Do we have to submit drawings ?

Also, we have not decided on which contractor will do the work yet...does that matter ? we wanted to get the ball rolling and get all permissions obtained before commencing the work

Also confused on the fee.....nothing seems to be in plain straightforward English anymore

When I spoke to the planning office they said we would need permission

It is a new window on the first floor...it wont be obscured glass

do you think permission wouldnt be required ?

What makes you think you even need planning Permission? You rarely need Permission.

if there is an overlooking issue or it is on the side and you don't intend on using obscure glazing then yes PP may well be required.

There will be a checklist of the documents you are required to submit to validate the application.

You need to apply for a 'Householder Application' which costs £150
As well as the forms you'll need the following at least:

1) site location plan
2) existing elevation
3) proposed elevation

4) floor plans may be required
5) site plan may be required

You may need to pop in to see the planners to see what minimum information they'll accept. You can do some scale draings yourself if yo're up to it or employ someone to do it. Probably best posting in the Planning & Building Regs section if you want advice to do it yourself.

If you provide a link to your authority I'll direct you to the Form on their website to fill in.

Or you can submit it online via the Planning Portal

Hi there, you shouldn't need to inform on which contractors you using either, as normally you would get the planning first if its needed and then arrange the contractor afterwards. also when it comes to acquiring the window its normally advisable to buy it yourself, you then know that your getting a decent quality window.

Hope this helps

This is one of those stupid planning rules which say that if you want plain glass you need to apply, and then when you apply it either gets refused or it gets conditioned that obscure glass must be used.

So just fit obscure glass under PD and then change it afterwards to plain if you want to
