Probably a simple question for you all.

My Immersion heater circuit tripped last night. I suspected a faulty element so I removed the thermostat element and turned on the circuit again. The circuit now didn't trip which implied that the fault did not lay somewhere else in the wiring. However, when I replaced the thermostat element with a new one, the circuit tripped again. Is it likely that the whole immersion heater will need replacing or is there something else I could try first?

If you remove the thermostat the heating element doesn't get any power  so you wouldn't expect it to trip any more than you would if it wasn't switched on!
You need a whole new immersion heater, which should come with a thermostat which meets current regs.
